Garden AnswersTried and Tested – Lightweight Gloves
Garden Answers
July 2007

Seven pairs of lightweight gloves got a rigorous workout by Garden Answers during last summer.  Appointed testers tried out seven pairs of lightweight gloves on several gardening tasks, from sowing, through to pricking out and digging.  The gloves were ranked on a scale of 1-5, one being poor and five being excellent for breathability, water resistance, digging, planting out, pruning and fine work.

Two of our Showa gloves where chosen for testing, the Showa 265 and the
Showa 310.

Scoring a massive 27 out of a possible 30 points, the ‘Testers Favourite’ was the Showa 265, receiving top marks for breathability, planting out, pruning and fine work. The tester commented that;

“These are the best summer-weight gloves I have ever used, they’re lightweight and breathable, and so your hands don’t get sweaty, but best of all, they are thin enough to use when pricking out or planting up…”

Coming a very close second with a score of 26/30 was the Showa 310, receiving top marks for breathability, digging and pruning.  The tester commented;

“These are a good pair of gloves for general gardening jobs as they fit snugly and have good padding…they are such a good fit, and that does make a difference”
